On the evening of March 24th, 2016, Tanveer Ahmed, a 32 year old Muslim man bravely risked his own life to defend the honor of the Prophet of Allah, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).
That evening, he attacked Asad Shah, a 40 year-old store proprietor in Glasgow, Scotland. Mr. Shah had defamed the Holy Prophet by being a member of the Ahmadiyya branch of Islam, a minority sect which Sunni Muslims consider to be apostates because of certain beliefs that are not in accordance with mainstream Islam. Mr. Shah had further insulted Islam and the Holy Prophet by posting “Easter greetings” to his Christian friends.
Tanveer Ahmed would not stand for this affront to the Prophet of Islam. At 12:30am, when Mr. Shah was closing his shop, Tanveer Ahmed attacked Mr. Shah with a knife, stabbing him multiple times, and he was seen stomping on the head of Mr. Shah when the police arrived. Mr. Shah was taken to the hospital, where he died of his injuries a short time later.
Tanveer Ahmed released this statement through his attorney just yesterday, which makes clear his courageous motives for all the world to see:
“This all happened for one reason and no other issues and no other intentions. Asad Shah disrespected the messenger of Islam the prophet Muhammad peace be upon him. Mr Shah claimed to be a prophet.”
“When 1,400 years ago the prophet of Islam Muhammad peace be upon him has clearly said that: ‘I am the final messenger of Allah there is no more prophets or messengers from God Allah after me.’ It is mentioned in the Qur’an that there is no doubt in this book no one has the right to disrespect the sayings of the prophet Muhammad peace be upon him and no one has the right to disrespect the prophet of Islam Muhammad peace be upon him.”
Mufti News congratulates Tanveer Ahmed for his piety, and wishes to offer the following prayers for Tanveer Ahmed in response to his act to defend the name of the Holy Prophet:
“In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
Allah, only You know why terrible things happen daily in this world. Perhaps they are Your will. Perhaps they are the consequences of our own failings. Perhaps they are just the sad fate, and a test for the rest.
We do not know what awaits us after this life. But surely, if there is punishment in the world after this one, we believe that it is reserved for men like Tanveer Ahmed, who purposefully inflict pain on innocent people, and leave their families and friends to mourn; and who claim to act on Your behalf, but whose hands have done the work of the Devil.
We know that as much as he wanted to protect the honor of the Prophet of Islam, it is Tanveer Ahmed- certainly not Mr.Shah- who has humiliated the name of Muhammad with his actions.
For by calling himself a follower of Muhammad, and by doing what he did, he has made it seem like the Prophet was a small man who might have supported, or whose example might have dictated, this kind of action. Because of Tanveer Ahmed, millions and millions of people today are thinking ‘What kind of a Prophet has followers like this?’
Only You know the truth, but by our judgement, Tanveer Ahmed is among the saddest, most pathetic failures of all humanity. He has misunderstood Islam. He has forsaken peace and brotherhood for nothing at all. He has murdered the hearts of Muslims and non-Muslims in the same strike. He breathes still, but his soul must have been lost long ago.
We pray that you have mercy on him. Because he does not know what he has done. He could not have known. For a man with no soul is like a rabid dog, a sad thing that has been degraded in every way. And if by some chance it dawns on him what he has done before you take him from this world- if it truly dawns on him what a terrible act he has committed- then his Hell will begin on that day.
Most importantly, we pray for the soul of the dearly departed Mr. Asad Shah. Were it not for his sad fate, we would not have known him at all. We thank him for showing the world the good face of Islam. We pray you receive him in Heaven, and that you give his loved ones peace.
Help us to have love for all, and hatred for none.
